Potential Position Moves
The Tigers still have one more huge game this season when they travel south to face Ohio State in the Orange Bowl, but I am also very excited about spring practice.

Actually, the new team will start PAW drills soon after the spring semester starts and the competition at several positions will heat up in the cold winter months.  The obvious storyline to the spring will be the quarterback battle to see who takes over for Tajh BoydTajh Boyd

and Deshaun Watson have the big names and athleticism.

Another one of the big storylines this spring will be position moves.  I have no inside knowledge on position moves at this point, but here are five that I think could make some sense and make the Tigers a better football team:

Kevin DoddKevin Dodd

Kevin Dodd should get a medical hardship from his injury this past season and should be a rising redshirt sophomore.  He has spent time at defensive end so far and some think he is growing into a defensive tackle.  However, I think the Tigers are deep at defensive tackle and have depth issues at offensive tackle.  We just found out this weekend that Giff Timothy is done with football because of injuries.  Isaiah BattleIsaiah Battle

are athletic and appear to be the top three offensive tackles heading into the spring but depth is needed.  Eric MacLain has played a little tackle, but some think he has shorter arms and may be better suited at guard or back at tight end.  Oliver JonesOliver Jones

has not had much of an impact to this point either.  Dodd is a good looking defensive lineman but I think he could become a very intriguing talent at offensive tackle.

TJ Green
When Clemson signed Green last February few had ever heard of him.  It is rare to find a true sleeper in these days of heavy recruiting coverage, but the Tigers got a steal in this athletic skill position player.  Green played wide receiver and returned kicks as a true freshman, but he was most impressive covering kicks.  He caught my attention several times with bone crushing hits on several occasions.  Clemson had issues one again at safety last season and Green looks like he could be a rangy, hard-hitting player on that side of the ball.

Travis Blanks is one of the high-character players in this program.  His teammates and coaches rave about what a great kid he is, but I think he may be better suited at the SAM linebacker/nickel.  Blanks played nickel as a true freshman and showed signs of big play capability.  He struggled at times this past season when he was moved to safety.  Blanks hasn’t been a natural fit there and often times took poor angles which led to missed tackled.  I think Blanks could add some weight and play closer to the line of scrimmage.  He looked much more natural playing closer to the line of scrimmage than he did playing in space.

Jay Jay McCulloughJay Jay McCullough

In high school Jay Jay McCullough played running back but has often felt he had to move to a new position in college.  As a tight end/H-back at Clemson, McCullough has not had a huge impact.  However, in The Citadel contest he closed out the game with several nice runs as a running back.  McCullough looked natural and comfortable.  He has a great forward lean and made great effort with yards after contact.  The tight end position is getting more crowded and maybe McCullough is the big back Chad MorrisChad Morris

has been looking for.  With Tajh Boyd leaving, maybe McCullough could be the short yardage option as a running back.

at center.  If Guillermo continues to develop as a true center, maybe Norton could shift over to guard and man a spot there.  Norton is athletic enough to handle the pulling action in the power running game and could give the Tigers a chance to get their best five players on the offensive line on the field at the same time.
