NC State Review

Saturday felt a lot like a game we saw earlier in Death Valley this year, only this time it was North Carolina State and not South Carolina State on the visiting sideline.

NC State scored 41 the week before against the nation's number one team in Florida State but were shutout in Clemson. Against the Seminoles they had 29 first downs but the Tigers held State to 12 first downs. State put up 520 yards on FSU but Clemson limited them to 156 yards. NCSU threw for 359 yards against Florida State and only 35 against the Tigers. This was a dominating performance as Clemson held State to 3-14 on third down conversions.

The Tigers did it by dominating the line of scrimmage and harassing Jacoby Brissett all day. Brissett completed 28 passes for 359 yards against the Seminoles but had only four completions the entire day Saturday for a total of 35 yards. One pass went for no gain while the other three went for eight, none and 18 yards. He was held to 16 yards rushing on 16 carries.

The defense was so impressive in holding State to five straight three and out series to start the game. By the time State got a first down the game was over with Clemson holding a 28-0 lead.

The defensive line got after the quarterback but you have to give the secondary a lot of credit for creating a couple of coverage sacks as well.

In summary, the defense was impressive at all three levels.

View Full Profile on two beautiful touchdown passes and scored two more on thee ground. Watson's highlight reel hurdle might bee the most impressive thing we have seen from the true freshmen.

Watson had his best rushing day with 62 yards on 15 carries and two scores. His passing totals were 17 of 29 for 267 yards and two more scores.

Williams celebrated his birthday with six receptions for 155 yards and two more scores.

View Full Profile provided some balance in the offense as they combined to go over 100 yards rushing.

After some criticism and even more adversity with injuries, I thought the offensive line played its best game of the season as well.

View Full Profile actually had a nice return and the only miscue in the special teams was one missed field goal.

This was an impressive performance by so many Tigers Saturday. I completely missed this one. I thought this would be a 14 point game with Clemson pulling away in the second half. Instead, the Tigers cruised to a 31-0 halftime lead and kept up the intensity in the second half to a complete win in all three phases.
