Mickey,

I've been a lifelong Clemson fan and for the last few years followed football recruiting pretty closely.  Most of the recruiting services give Clemson a pretty good ranking.  The only one that seems to always rate Clemson's class lower (much lower at times than the rest) is scout.  Do you have any idea why this is the case, or am I just missing something.  The scout rankings  this year did not have them ranked in the top 25  The worst ranking in the other 3 services I saw was 17th.  Just curious as to why.

Donald

Donald,

Recruiting rankings are very subjective and extremely difficult to execute. Some people like Coke while others like Pepsi. In many cases its just the difference in how some see it. With that said, I have noticed the same thing about scout.com. They certainly have not highly of Clemson in the few years. Clemson has finished in the top ten in the nation in each of the last two years, so maybe Scout has been wrong.

Mickey,

What's the deal with giving scholarships to unranked and unrecruited players such as J.D and Judah Davis Judah Davis

? Is this a gift for their daddy, the great Jeff Davis? I hope they pan out, but I believe those scholarships could have gone to more worthy players.

Rick

Rick,

The deal is that the staff evaluated each player and decided to offer both Davis twins. They feel both are deserving. They know more about it than you and I so I suggest we trust the staff with their evaluations.

Mickey,

What do your sources tell you about the possible transfer of Alvin Kamara to Clemson? If this happens, he would have to sit out next fall?

thx

William

William,

Kamara is not enrolled in class at Alabama and therefore is not enrolling in his new school until at least May. This means he is in now hurry to decide. Clemson is his only official visit so far and the Tigers are in good shape, but I understand he will take other visits in the next few weeks or months. Oklahoma State, UCLA, FSU, Texas and several others are also involved. At this point Clemson leads but that could change with other visits.

Kamara will have to sit out the 2014 season and will have three years to play three seasons at his new school.

Mickey,

OK, it seems that every recruiting year is more confusing when it comes to how many players sign with their schools and this year is no different.   If you look at the Florida State website, there are 135  players listed and of that number, are 21 Seniors.   I know there are several other players that will be leaving early to go the NFL but how is it possible that their recruits number 29?

The standard answer is that there are always those that count against the prior year but how can it be that all 21 of the players listed as Seniors are actually on scholarship because if my old memory is right their 2 deep roster had few Seniors.    If the 85 scholarship rule is still in effect, count me in those that think rankings of recruits are garbage and should not happen until the kids actually enroll in school because the numbers are just out of whack.

Andy

Andy,

I am sure the website for Florida State includes the walk-ons. Every school can only bring in 25 each year and have 85 on scholarship at one time. Those numbers never change. FSU had some juniors leave early too. Some schools can try to count back prospects to last year's class but each year they can only bring n 25 and 85 is the total number on scholarship. Those numbers are not to be circumvented.
