Usually the best movies feature the best actors and directors, but sometimes you get an independent film that ranks as a classic.
The most memorable moments in history have been usually reserved for the epic figures like Napoleon, Churchill and Lincoln but occasionally someone is thrust into a historic moment.
Usually the best sporting events involve the great ones like Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods or Dale Earnhardt. But sometimes you get special moments from the unexpected teams or the unheralded athlete.
My favorite moments in Clemson athletic history are usually reserved for big bowl wins, ACC and national titles and wins over Georgia, FSU and South Carolina in football. But what we got last night is one of the most exciting athletic events I have ever witnessed.
Many Clemson fans had never seen Belmont play a sporting event before Tuesday night. Some could not have told you that they were the Bruins or that their campus is in Nashville.
Who would have thought that an NIT game would give us this kind of memory?
What we ended up with last night was one of the most thrilling and fulfilling nights in school history. All of that from an NIT game against a mid-major.
Belmont was the perfect opponent to set this up. They play an incredible brand of basketball through great execution of its offense and pinpoint accuracy from the three-point line. They were one of the most entertaining teams I have ever seen play in Littlejohn.
They say that styles make the fight in prize fighting and we got two great styles of play to look back on after last night's thriller.
Clemson countered Belmont's competitive spirit by playing just as hard. The Tigers' held the Bruins 12 points under their average. The held a team that shot 50 percent from the field this season to just 38 percent last night.
The Tigers found a way to end the game on a 12-2 run to pull out a great win and survive to play in the semi-finals in Madison Square Garden next week. This will be the Tigers' third trip to New York and the final four of the NIT. Clemson will play the winner of tomorrow night's SMU-Cal game.
The win was the 23rd of the season for the Tigers which is a high for a Brownell coached team at Clemson.
For the night Clemson shot 48 percent from the field and hit a season high 10 three pointers. The Tigers were 10-21 from behind the three point line which is 48 percent. They gave up 12 three pointers but that was on 32 attempts.
Like most Clemson victories this season, Clemson closed it out at the free throw line where they went 9-11 for the game.
Clemson had three players in double figures including Demarcus Harrison who had 14 of his 16 points in the second half. K. J. McDaniels had 16 points as well. The Tigers got 12 points from

The Tigers won despite being out rebounded 41-32 by one of the nation's worst rebounding teams.
A perfect night had a perfect ending with Brownell thanking the fans over the PA system, the fans that rushed the floor chanting to McDaniels "One more year! One more year!" and Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York."
