Gardner-Webb got on the board in the 79th minute. Chris Salvaggione scored his sixth goal of the season with an assist by Hughes.

"Gardner-Webb is a good team and they came to play," said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. " I have a lot of respect for their program and the success that they have had this season. I am happy for our players and our seniors. If you get a 3-0 lead against a good team like Gardner-Webb, you're playing well. I am a little disappointed in some little things that we didn't execute. We need to take care of these details if we are to be successful. We played a lot better in the second half. We must turn our attention now on getting ready to play UCLA."
