Newcastle, England (Sports Network) - Newcastle have completed the signing of United States National Team defender and former Clemson standout Oguchi Onyewu, Tuesday.

The signing of the 24-year-old is a loan with the English Premiership side until the end of the season with the Magpies having the option of making the transfer permanent at the conclusion of the season.

Newcastle, currently 12th in the Premiership standings after 24 fixtures, hopes the physical presence of the 6-4, 210-pound Onyewu will vastly improve a defense that has given up 32 goals this season.
