Watson: "There is nothing like Clemson for me" |
The recruitment of 2014 quarterback prospect
Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson Watson is the 5-star standout out of Gainesville (GA) who has been committed to Clemson since February of 2012, and he was back on campus Saturday for the Orange and White Game where he was joined by his mother Deann and his siblings. Prior to the game, the family was on the sidelines when offensive coordinator
Chad MorrisChad Morris “They have been tremendous,” she told me. “They have been great with us, and this has all been a dream come true.” A few minutes later, Watson gazed out at the Clemson players going through their pre-game warmups, smiled brightly and told me after the visit that all of the above reasons were why he was solid to Clemson. “This is a family here,” he said. “Every time I come here, they make me and my family special. There is nothing like Clemson for me. I know most of the players, and I feel like I am already on the team.” However, his love for Clemson hasn’t stopped other schools from continuing to recruit the player that many consider the top player in the Peach State next season, including Ohio St. and Georgia. I asked Watson if his commitment was contingent upon Morris staying at Clemson – Morris will probably be a leading candidate for several jobs after the season – and he said no. “I really do hope Coach Morris stays at Clemson,” he said. “I want him to be my coach. But he also has to do what’s best for him and his family, and if he takes another job, that doesn’t mean I won’t be at Clemson.” Watson said he plans on visiting Georgia, Ohio St., Oregon and Auburn over the summer.
