Vegas loves the Tigers' chances this season, except against Louisville

by - Senior Writer -

College football analysts far and wide don’t like Clemson’s chances to repeat as ACC Champions this season, but Las Vegas likes the Tigers’ chances in all of their big games this season except for one – the early-season matchup at Louisville.

Odds Shark and the Golden Nugget recently released the odds for many of next season’s biggest games, and a few of the way-too-early lines are surprising.

Let’s take a quick look at the odds and the history:

Kent St. at Clemson, Sept. 2nd

Odds Shark already has the Tigers as a 40-point favorite heading into the season opener. This line will fluctuate with injuries and the news out of fall camp regarding Clemson’s quarterback situation. If one player gets the good press and is the main guy coming out of August the line could go up.

Auburn at Clemson, Sept. 9th

This is an early-season game that is already getting a lot of attention. Clemson has won three consecutive games in the series, but had to hold on for dear life last season at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn brings in former defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and a new quarterback in Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham. Both sites have Clemson as a 7-point favorite.

Clemson at Louisville, Sept. 16th

This will be the ACC opener for the Tigers, and it could have ACC Atlantic Division title implications. The winner controls their own destiny in the division, while the loser knows they would have to win out, beat Florida St. and hope the winner lose two more games in the conference.

The series is just three games old, but all three have been classics. The Tigers won the first one 23-17 in Clemson, thwarting a touchdown attempt as time ran out, won 20-17 at Louisville two years ago and thwarted another late attempt last season in s 42-36 classic. The Cardinals will have quarterback Lamar Jackson, but have questions elsewhere.

Odds Shark has the game with Louisville as a two-point favorite, while the Golden Nugget has this game as a pick ‘em.

Boston College at Clemson, Sept. 23rd

No line listed.

Clemson at Virginia Tech, Sept. 30th

Clemson is listed as a 7-point favorite in this rematch of the ACC Championship by Golden Nugget. Both teams will have tons of new face at the skill positions.

Clemson has won four in a row in the series.

Wake Forest at Clemson, Oct. 7th

No line.

Clemson at Syracuse, Oct. 13th

No line.

Georgia Tech at Clemson, Oct. 28th

Clemson has won five out of the last seven (and four out of the last five) in the series. The Yellow Jackets are an interesting team this season – some people think they will contend for (and win) the ACC Coastal, while others see them as a .500 club. The truth is that you just never know with a Paul Johnson-coached team.

The Golden Nugget has Clemson as an early 18-point favorite. The Tigers are 4-1 since Brent Venables arrived to coach the defense, and the lone Tech win was a result of poor quarterback play on the part of the Tigers.

Clemson at N.C. State, Nov. 4th

We all know what happened last season, and the Wolfpack will be out for revenge this year. This series seems like it’s closer than it is in recent season, but the fact is that Clemson has won 12 out of the last 13 and five in a row since the debacle at State in 2011.

The Wolfpack are a trendy pick to take a step forward this season, a critical one for head coach Dave Doeren. The Golden Nugget has Clemson as a 6 ½-point road favorite.

Florida St. at Clemson, Nov. 11th

The winner of this one typically wins the ACC Championship, so there won’t be any shortage of drama when the ‘Noles come calling. Clemson has won two in a row in the series, but the Seminoles are the favorite to represent the ACC in the College Football Playoff.

Clemson is a 2-point favorite by the Golden Nugget, and Odds Shark has Clemson as a 5-point favorite. This one will be fun to revisit the week of the game.

The Citadel at Clemson, Nov. 18th

No line.

Clemson at South Carolina, Nov. 25th

Clemson has won three in a row in the series, and last season’s win was as dominant of a performance as you will ever see in a rivalry game. The Golden Nugget seems to give some early-season credit to the Gamecocks because of their offense and the fact that they’re at home, with the Tigers a 10-point road favorite.

This is another one that will be fun to revisit the week of the game.
