Two Clemson Players Suspended for Champs Sports Bowl

by -

Clemson tight end Bobby Williamson and defensive end Kwam Williams have been suspended for the Tigers Champs Sports Bowl game with Colorado on December 27. Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden made the announcement on Tuesday following Clemson's final practice in Clemson.

Williamson and Williams have been suspended for academic reasons. The academic suspensions do not effect either of the players ability to return to Clemson as students for the spring semester of 2006.

Williamson is a senior so his career at Clemson is finished. He started nine of the 11 regular season games at tight end and caught nine passes for 100 yards, including his only touchdown pass of the year at NC State. He played 46 games in his career, 21 as a starter. The native of Florida played in 11 games as a defensive end in 2004 and as a tight end the rest of his career.

Williams played in nine games as a reserve defensive end this year. The red-shirt sophomore had three tackles in 69 defensive snaps, two of which took place in the overtime loss to Boston College. Williams will expected to rejoin the team for the spring semester.

Bowden also announced that Kelvin Grant had been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. Grant, a red-shirt junior in 2005, suffered a torn ACL on October 5 during practice and would not have been physically able to play in the Champs Sports Bowl. He had 10 catches for 84 yards in five games this year and 45 receptions for 437 yards in 26 games for his career.

Grant is expected to transfer to another non Division I school.
