Tommy Bowden Sunday Teleconference Notes |
Following are quick notes and quotes from Tommy Bowden's Sunday Teleconference: - Didn't play very well defensively. Didn't tackle well. It looks like we didn't play with a lot of intensity and we had a lot of missed assignment. Short week not really an excuse. We weren't leg tired. I made sure of that. - Both starters and reserves played that way. - No injuries. - After two games, very pleased to be 2-0. But we couldn't have beaten a much better opponent Saturday the way we played defensively. But I guess I have to be careful because of (upsets). I guess I should be happy. But I see so much room for improvement, and I don't see us beating some of the teams on our schedule if we played the way we did Saturday. - I didn't mention App. State and Michigan one time last week. I will this week. - Harper: You really have to play the game confident. We talk to them, but that can only take you so far. The more he plays the better he executes and the more confidence he gets. You can't duplicate the on-field Saturday experience. - Didn't run-block much Saturday. Did pretty good against Florida State. I'd say average overall so far. - They had 82 plays, which is way too many plays for another team to have. We have to get them off the field. But then every game you won't go out and dominate. I hope at the end of the year we're way ahead of the curve. - ULM's offense was a little unusual. I have to be careful I don't get too discouraged on my end. - Furman wins a lot of games because they're well coached. Lot of pride in that program. - No doubt that it's hard to be win-win vs. Furman. If you win it (fans say) you should have won by more, or shouldn't be playing Div. 1-AA. But I don't mind playing them. Good for the state. They get a lot of money for playing us. They'll bring (a lot) of fans. But if you win it's still just about a no-win situation.
