Tommy Bowden Sunday Teleconference

by - Correspondent -

Quick notes and quotes from Tommy Bowden's Sunday teleconference:

- We contended the last two years. All it got me was a bunch of headaches. We contended last year, predicted to finish second and we did. Contending really isn't that good (championships matter). Not looking ahead. I'd like to beat Ga. Tech.

- We could have put State's lights out down the stretch, but we had too many penalties.

- Georgia Tech will be like us, looking to play better than they have the past couple of weeks.

- Offensive line looked good. Anytime you rush for that many yards they did pretty good. Just watched the tape, and they did very good.

- Davis penalty: Got to be careful what I say. Seen it on film. Needless to say I'll be sending that in. I'm not going to elaborate. I'm disappointed.

- I think I've got to gear a good performance vs. a good team. Don't know how good Florida State and N.C. State are. Need to wait a little later to see the quality of competition to see how good we are right now.

- I don't think people will ever realize Rutgers, Louisville, Wake Forest, Kentucky - teams like that - have jumped up there. There's a perception out there about teams like that. But times are changing. There's more good teams out there.

- Players not overly impressed with themselves. Have done a pretty good job of staying focused.
