CLEMSON -- Clemson head football coach Tommy Bowden was available to the media by teleconference on Sunday to discuss the win over La Tech.

Tommy Bowden notes and quotes from his Sunday teleconference:

Dealing with mistakes made in the 52-0 victory

The fumbles by the two true freshman I think we can correct. Anytime you

play young guys you have to count on mistakes. But the blocked extra point was a

low kick. (Jad's) been erratic all season. The guy just stuck up his

arm and blocked it. Those things will cost you in a game like Wake

Forest.

On staying focused

One thing this team has done in five games is take it one game at a time.

Until they prove me wrong it looks like we'll be able to do that again.

Traditionally in the past Wake is a poor environment. This will be entirely

different. We had to motivate for La. Tech. We won't have to motivate for this

one. They've had our number.

Kickoff coverage problems
We don't have the guys doing

the right thing. I'll take the blame for it myself on the phone and in the

paper. When I hang this phone up I'm not (laughter).

Wake Forest's hot start

The only thing this is going to ensure is that Wake is at a higher level

than they've been since 1987 (the last time the Deacons started 5-0). That will

elevate their players another notch. If anything it will take them a notch

higher, which doesn't bode well for us.

Michael Hamlin's status this week

I don't know what kind of impact he can have. He hasn't played in three or

four weeks. They run such a unique offense, I don't know how we would use him.

He'll probably come back as a starter since he was a starter when he was

injured, but I don't know what kind of impact he can have.

Naming names

Nick Watkins played really, really good. Jock McKissick did well. Thomas

Austin, Corey Lambert and Barry Humphries all played pretty well.

Improvement in the running game

I couldn't get it done. I had to change. I hired a guy named Rob Spence who

had experience at this level calling plays with the run and run-action pass. He

implemented that system and you can see the results. Now we have a good line and

good backs, but I think it's the change in the system that's been the

biggest thing.

Getting young players on film

The biggest thing is the game experience, then the second thing is seeing

it on film and getting things corrected. You just can't duplicate the experience

of playing at game speed at this level. It's not like high school. At 20-some

plays a game, now some of them have played a whole game. In the past we haven't

been able to do that.

Back-to-back games at Wake

I couldn't understand when I saw the schedule. Other schools in the

conference are doing it, too. But as an outsider looking in if you're playing

games back-to-back in the same stadium, ours holds 80,000 and theirs 35,000.

Seems the conference could make more money if they played back-to-back games in

our stadium instead of theirs. But nobody asked me.

Note - 81 players got into the game vs. Louisiana Tech.
