Tigers offer trio of New Jersey prospects

Sicklerville, New Jersey, might not be on the Jersey shore but it could wind up being a prime time recruiting area for the Clemson Tigers.

Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables made an official offer to three high school players out of Sicklerville (Timber Creek) Wednesday, the same school that produced South Carolina’s Damiere Byrd.

The head coach at Timber Creek, Rob Hinson, told TigerNet on Thursday that he has known Venables since Venables was at Oklahoma.

“I have known Coach Venables for a couple of years, since he has been recruiting this area,” Hinson said. “One of his former players at Oklahoma – linebacker Lamont Robinson – graduated the year I took over at a previous high school. We developed a friendship. He offered Greg when he was at Oklahoma, and then we didn’t hear from him.

“When I found out he was headed to Clemson, I thought about calling him and asking for a loan. But then he called me and said he would stay in touch with me. He hit me up last night, and he said he definitely wanted Greg and Dajaun if it wasn’t too late. And then he watched the film, and he sent me a text saying, ‘We want Nash, too. He is freaking awesome. We are offering him, too.’ I am expecting him to call again tonight.”

Hinson said that all three players are excited about getting offers from the ACC champs, and now he is trying to plan a visit for all three to see the campus and meet with the coaches.

“Those guys are definitely going to try and get down there, and I hope Coach Venables can come up here soon,” he said. “I was talking to them, and they are all excited about getting down there. Especially Nash – he is probably a lower-profile prospect and might have a little quicker timetable than the other two. But all of them want to visit, especially with their history of developing defensive linemen and Death Valley and all that stuff. They definitely want to get there as soon as possible.”

Hinson then broke down each of his players.

On Webb : “He is probably the most exciting kid I have ever coaches. He is 300 pounds, but he runs a high 4.8. He was wrestled for most of his life, so he plays really low. He has that big butt and big legs and generates some serious power. With his power, his motor and quickness he is unstoppable on the high school level.”

Webb has offers from many of the major programs, 30 in all.

On Drennon: “Dejaun has more raw ability. He has long arms, and he has been playing varsity basketball since he was a freshman. He has been a low level basketball prospect, but not near what he can be in football. He was been in the weight room every day getting bigger. He can run, he has all the physical tools and has a lot of power.”

He also has offers from many of the major programs, 24 in all.

On Nash: “He is very long and very athletic. His only negative is that he has been a thin kid, but he has been working his tail off and has a high football IQ. He absolutely loves and lives football. He hasn’t missed a day in our weight room since December, and he has gained 25 pounds since December.”

Nash has nine offers, including Boston College, Kentucky, Purdue, Virginia and West Virginia.

Hinson said that the subplot of his players maybe one day facing off against Byrd in a Palmetto state rivalry is something he would like to see.

“Once these guys get ahold of the fact that Byrd plays at South Carolina and they would be hated rivals, they will be freaking out. I can't wait to see that when that hits the airwaves with them.”
