View Full Profile heard all about Clemson growing up, and even took a trip to Clemson during his ninth grade year. As a result, he was pleasantly surprised when he received an offer from the Tigers last Friday, an offer that joins a growing list.

The 3-star, 6-2, 270-pound defensive tackle out of Jackson, Ga., has a cousin named Broderick Allen that committed to play linebacker in 1987, so he has heard about the Tigers his entire life.

“He is always telling me about Clemson, telling me what it’s like there,” Woods told TigerNet this weekend. “He is always telling me about the Tigers. I took a trip up there my 9th-grade year and I really liked it.”

As a result, he sent out his highlight tape to new defensive coordinator Brent Venables, who liked what he saw.

“I was kind of surprised that they offered,” he said. “I had talked to Coach Venables, and I sent him my highlight tape. I had talked to them a few times, but not a whole lot. I really didn’t know they were about to offer.”

Defensive ends coach Marion Hobby, who recruits the north Georgia area for the Tigers, stopped by Jackson High School last Wednesday.

“Coach Hobby actually came down Wednesday, and I knew he would talk to my coaches,” Woods said. “I didn’t get a chance to talk him. But I was walking down the hall of my school on Friday, and my head coach stopped me and told me he had some good news for me. He said that the coaches from Clemson had called and they had offered.”

Woods also got a recent offer from nearby Georgia – an offer that came from Georgia head coach Mark Richt – and now boasts 23 offers from schools in almost every major conference.

Woods says he wants to narrow down his list and then take visits to the schools on that list. And yes, Clemson is in those plans.

“In late May or early June, I really want to narrow it down,” he said. “And then, I want to take some visits and check out those schools. I would love to see Clemson again and get up there and talk to the coaches again. And then, I want to make my decision during football season.”

Woods told TigerNet that he is an “aggressive” player who can transition from the run to the pass because that is the way he has been taught.

“All I hear from other people is that I am aggressive off the ball, and have a good pass rush,” he said. “But I also play well against the run; because that is the way I have been taught by my defensive line coach. We are going to work on my leverage this summer.”
