Tigers add 3-star offensive lineman to class

A late addition to Clemson’s list of potential recruits made it official when 3-star OG Spencer Region picked the Tigers during a signing ceremony at his school (Cullman Senior High, AL) Wednesday morning.

Region (6-6, 345) is ranked as the 9th-best player at his position by ESPN and was an Under Armour All-American. He took an official visit to Clemson last weekend, and said he committed to the Clemson coaching staff following his visit.

“I picked Clemson because I love Clemson, and I loved being up there,” Region told TigerNet following his ceremony. “It felt a lot like home, and I am ready to go to battle with Coach Swinney and his staff. After the official visit, I committed and kept it silent. Me and my family all felt good about the whole Clemson deal. I am ready to get up there and start working.”

Region had been on the Clemson board since his junior season, when he was recruited by Clemson assistant coach Charlie Harbison, who recruits the Alabama area.

However, Region made an early commitment to Auburn in February of last year, and Clemson had Region off the board by May. When Region backed off his Auburn commitment, the Tigers jumped back in the fray and managed to pick up a solid line recruit.

Region is big, aggressive and has the kind of nasty attitude needed to play guard on the collegiate level.

“My style of play is to physically abuse people,” Region said. “That is what I like to do, is just maul the opponent and inflict as much pain as I possibly can within the rules of the game.”
