TigerNet Talk: This is Death Valley

by -

Talk about a chance for redemption! Last season Clemson traveled to Carter-Finley Stadium at 9-1 as a confident bunch and were hammered by the Wolfpack 37-13. It wasn't even close. The Wolfpack used a 27-0 second quarter to crush the Tigers dreams of their first ten win regular season since 1981. To make matters worse, it ended up being a precursor to the following week's game in Williams-Brice Stadium as the South Carolina Gamecocks rolled to their third straight win in the series.

Unlike last season, this Clemson team has continued to improve week to week. The offensive numbers have been steady, as in scoring 35 points in the first half consistently over the past three weekends. As constant as the offense has been, it has been the defense that has taken the biggest strides. The Tiger defense has given up 15 points per game over the last four contests. They now sit at #33 nationally in points against per game and have only given up 224 points this season.

With the final two games at home and a chance to break the all-time consecutive home wins mark (the Riggs Field record is also a twelve game winning streak) Death Valley could come unglued. The realization that a ten win season is ripe for the picking again will be more than enough reason for the fans to be all over the Wolfpack.

This weekend starts a redemption tour for the Tigers. Over the next two weekends in Memorial Stadium Clemson can take care of two teams who stuck it to them at the end of schedule. Close to 365 days have passed since those two beatings took place and it all starts with taking care of the Wolfpack this Saturday.

The focus has to be clear. This is the most important game on the schedule. The team can't look down the road. They learned their lessons last year, and a menacing crowd will be on hand to help them remember the importance of this game. This band of Tigers has grown up before our eyes this year. They were able to bounce back when they needed to, they have shown up when they could have taken it easy, they have given us a thrilling season thus far, and they are ready to remind North Carolina State and the rest of America that, "This is......Death Valley"!
