The Clemson staff more than anything wanted to land a big time running back in this class. Sunday morning the staff received a verbal commitment from Douglass High School running back James Davis. Davis may be one of the top ten running backs in the nation this season.

"I committed to Clemson this morning. I wanted to go somewhere where I can make something happen. Clemson is an up and coming program. I think some special things are about to start happening at Clemson."

Clemson had been one of the top schools on Davis' list since the very beginning. Upon leaving his official visit, Davis knew Clemson was the right school for him.

"The whole place was just amazing. Coach Bowden said he wanted me to be the running back. Plus, Coach Burns is the right guy for me. He has been on me since day one. He told me about four years ago, that he was gonna come after me when I was a senior. He stood by me."

Another key factor for Davis was jersey number. So what number will Davis wear for the Tigers?

"They gave me my number one. I love my number, that was important to me."

Davis did meet with new offensive coordinator Rob Spence on his visit.

"Coach Spence seemed like an offensive genius to me. He said they are going to get back to running the football. He told me that I could be a four year starter at Clemson, and break a lot of records."

Davis was hosted by Duane Coleman this weekend, but also spent time with Mike Davis and Ray Ray McElrathbey.

"I think Mike committed too. I am not 100% sure he committed, but he talked about it. Ray Ray is solid to Clemson, especially now that I am committed."

Davis has had an up and down recruiting process, and says Clemson is his final stop.

"I am firm to Clemson. I will talk to my coach tomorrow. He handles all of my calls. I am going to tell him that I will only take calls from Clemson."
