The Tiger Ten

The Tiger Ten returns with a look back at the Florida State game and a look ahead to Boston College. Fair warning: the defensive numbers from the FSU game are not pretty.

has had a 52 yard pass for a touchdown and a 58 yard run for a touchdown.

9.) Last season in the Orange Bowl against West Virginia, Clemson’s Defense gave up 595 yards of total offense and 9 touchdowns. Against Florida State this past Saturday, Clemson’s Defense gave up 667 yards of total offense and 7 touchdowns. Two of Clemson’s last primetime, nationally televised defensive performances have been complete and utter dumpster fires.

8.) The Clemson/Florida State game produced the 2nd most Total Offensive Yards by both teams in Clemson History. Florida State had 667 yards of total offense and Clemson had 426 yards of total offense for a total of 1,093 yards. The record is the Clemson vs. Wake Forest game (1981), where Clemson had 756 yards and Wake Forest had 351 yards, for a total of 1,107 yards of total offense.

7.) Florida State’s 667 yard Offensive performance is good for 2nd all time in Most Total Offensive Yards by a Clemson opponent. Florida State holds the top 3 spots: 771 yards (2000), 667 yards (2012), and 634 yards (1993).

6.) Florida State averaged 10.9 yards per attempt and 7.2 yards per rush against Clemson. FSU is number one nationally in yards per rush, with an average of 7.49 yards per rush. FSU is T-6th nationally in yards per pass attempt, with an average of 9.9 yards per attempt. The thing to take from this is that Clemson is not the only team that FSU has owned this year. Clemson gets lumped in with the likes of Murray State…Savannah State…Wake…

5.) Clemson will be going from one of the nation’s top rushing offenses to one of the nation’s worst rushing offenses. Boston College’s rushing offense is ranked 114th nationally with 95.7 ypg and their passing offense is ranked 16th nationally with 317 ypg. Clemson’s rushing defense is ranked 100th nationally allowing 206.5 ypg and their pass defense is ranked 75th nationally giving up 236 ypg.

4.) Boston College has the nation’s top tackler in Nick Clancy (#54). Clancy (RS Senior) is averaging 14.33 tackles/gm. Their junior linebacker, Kevin Pierre-Louis (#24), is ranked 6th nationally, averaging 12 tackles/gm. Clemson’s top two tacklers are Stephone AnthonyStephone Anthony

(7 tackles/gm).

3.) Clemson’s Defense has allowed 23 plays of 20+ yards this year (5.75 per game, T-115th nationally). Clemson is allowing their opponents to score from an average of 22 yards out. Luckily for Clemson, Boston College is T-81st nationally, only having 14 plays of 20+ yards (4.7 per game). Looking back, Florida State is 4th nationally with 26 plays of 20+ yards this year (6 per game).

’ offense loses the 3rd down conversion battle, Clemson is 2-5. The two wins are against Troy (’11) and VT in the ACCCG (’11). Clemson is currently converting 47.7% (28th nationally) of their 3rd downs and Boston College is allowing their opponents to convert 44.8% (96th) of their third downs. Clemson is allowing their opponents to convert 31.5% (29th) of their 3rd downs and Boston College has converted 34.2% (99th) of their 3rd downs this year. Statistically speaking, Clemson should have a positive outcome on 3rd downs this coming Saturday.

1.) In Sammy Watkins’ first 15 games, he has 326 yards rushing, 1,295 yards receiving and 895 return yards. This gives him a total of 2,516 yards for an average of 167.7 all purpose yards per game. After CJ Spiller’s first 15 games, he had 1,024 yards rushing, 300 yards receiving and 497 return yards. That’s a total of 1,821 yards for an average of 121.4 all purpose yards per game. CJ Spiller’s 7,588 all purpose yards ranks him 3rd in career all purpose yards in FBS history.
