Swinney Named Top 25 Recruiter

CLEMSON, SC - Clemson wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney has been named one of the top 25 recruiters in the country by Rivals.com. The second-year assistant was cited for signing nine players in each of the last two signing classes, with strong efforts in Alabama, Northern Florida and South Carolina.

Clemson set receiving records for receptions, reception yards, and touchdown receptions in Swinney’s first season in 2003. Airese Currie, Derrick Hamilton, and Kevin Youngblood combined for 175 catches and 2,483 yards along with 16 touchdowns. In 2004, Swinney’s only senior receiver had a banner season. Airese Currie caught 61 passes for 868 yards and two touchdowns and became just the seventh Clemson receiver to be named to the All-ACC first team. He is also the first Tiger since Perry Tuttle in 1980 to lead the league in receptions per game.

Since 1997, Swinney has had 14 former players either drafted or sign free agent contracts. The list includes third-round pick Hamilton, Youngblood, and former All-American Freddie Milons, Alabama’s all-time leading receiver in terms of receptions and second in yardage.
