Star power on hand for elite junior day

by - Staff Writer -

Clemson's 2015 recruiting is all but in the books and the Clemson coaching staff is already hard at work on what promises to be a stellar 2016 class.

That continues this Saturday with the first elite junior day of the New Year, and many of the top targets for the next recruiting cycle will be on hand. Last year's elite junior day reads like a Who's Who of big-time players, including Mitch HyattMitch Hyatt

. Many of those same players are already enrolled at Clemson and will be on-hand recruiting success stories for the coaches to point to.

Clemson’s elite junior day will definitely have star power with three 5-stars on hand for the weekend’s activities.

may also be in attendance, although his decision was still up in the air late Thursday evening.

After last year’s elite junior day, Clemson netted a commitment from quarterback Tucker Israel, so the coaching staff knows exactly how important it is to make a good a good first impression and it wouldn’t be too surprising if the Tigers picked up at least one commitment from this weekend’s activities.

Newnan (GA) Northgate 3-star linebacker Jamie Skalski has publically said that Clemson is his favorite. Could he give the Tigers the official nod this weekend?

Skalski told TigerNet Thursday night that he’s looking forward to seeing what all Clemson has to offer.

“I mainly want to see the facilities and the campus,” Skalski said. “I would also love to be able to sit down with some of the current players and talk to them.”

Clemson has heavily recruited four-star wide receiver Cornell Powell who told TigerNet that he's looking forward to bringing his mother to Clemson.

"I'm looking forward to hanging out with the coaches and other recruits and maybe even the players. Also, I want my mother to enjoy and love it just like I did," Powell said.

the unofficial leader of the 2016 class after his commitment last June, so it’s only fitting that the 3-star prospect will be in town this weekend.

“Every time I go to Clemson I never want to leave, so whenever I get home I am always trying to figure out when my next trip up there will be,” Chalk told TigerNet Thursday. “The main reason I want to go is so I can continue to build a relationship with the coaching staff and always start a good relationship with the other two commits.”
