is all too familiar with the Clemson family.

As the son of Clemson Board of Trustee member and former football player Bill Smith, the 6-5, 235-pound tight end commit from Columbia (SC) Hammond School has been around Clemson football his entire life, and his ties to the university continue to grow.

The elder Smith received the Brian Dawkins Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month at the football banquet, and Smith told TigerNet that he couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of such a prestigious award.

“It was great. Smith said earlier this week. “It’s just that the connection to Clemson continues to get even stronger. My dad is an awesome guy. I couldn’t ask for a better father because he has been there for me spiritually and always giving me advice. He lives up to the award he got and definitely makes my connection to Clemson better.”

Whit his dad’s legacy is cemented, the three-star prospect will begin his own career at Clemson University in June, and after taking his official visit this past weekend Smith knows he made the right decision in picking the Tigers.

“Their message to me is that Clemson is a one of a kind place and there is no other place like it, which is true,” Smith said. “They emphasize the word family, which I think is really important because everyone works together and everyone is happy is happy there. I can’t wait to be around that environment where everyone is one big family and they look out for each other.”

During the official visit, Smith was able to see what the life of a Clemson football player will be like, as well as spend time with his future teammates and player host Sean Mac Lain

“It was a lot of fun. We got to hang out with the coaches,” Smith said. “They talked about Clemson. We got to see the indoor facility and we got to run down the hill into the stadium, which was pretty cool. We got to meet a lot of different players and hang out with our host players. It was fun and a great weekend.”
