Pearman checks in on 2019 rising star

Clemson tights end coach Danny Pearman recently stopped to check in one of the top prospects for the 2019 recruiting cycle, a visit that Clemson sits firmly in the top three for Jashawn Sheffield.

Sheffield, a 6-2, 175-pound athlete out of St Simons Island (GA) Frederica Academy, is one of the rising stars of the 2019 class. Sheffield has picked up offers from an impressive list of schools that includes Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Florida St., Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio St. and Tennessee.

In all, Sheffield has 16 offers, and Pearman dropped by to see if the Clemson coaches could get Sheffield on campus for a visit and to check in on Sheffield’s teammate, 2019 athlete Jaylin Simpson.

“He stopped by to check in on me and Jaylin,” Sheffield told TigerNet. “We talked about me visiting, and I plan on coming for a visit. I just have to figure it out.”

Sheffield was more than an interested observer during Clemson’s run to the National Championship, and he said his relationship with the coaching staff and the way Clemson runs its offense has the Tigers firmly in the mix.

“Clemson is definitely in my top three,” he said. “I love Coach (Jeff) Scott and have a good relationship with him. Clemson is right there, along with Georgia and Ohio St. Clemson treats me like family whenever I am up there, like I already go there. Coach Scott has kept it real with me, and I respect him a lot.”

Sheffield said he paid special attention to Clemson’s wide receivers during the playoff run. He also doesn’t rule out playing defense on the next level.

“I already know the history of the wide receivers at Clemson,” he said. “I wasn’t surprised at all. I am physical and I can find ways to get open. But I might play on the defensive side. I am just not sure yet.”

“I am looking for a home feel. A program that takes care of their players on and off the field. A good business program,” he said.
