Nation's number one CB says All In Cookout "a lot of inspiration"

Georgia has Dawg Night and Florida has Friday Night Lights, but there’s just something different about sitting down for a family cookout.

Clemson hosted several commits and uncommitted prospects Friday night for its fifth annual All In Cookout, including the nation’s No. 1 cornerback, A.J. Terrell. Terrell was one of five uncommitted and highly-regarded prospects to attend the Cookout, along with Justin Foster, OrTre Smith, Jamyest Williams and Jordan Williams.

The Cookout was the second trip to Clemson this summer for the Atlanta (GA) Westlake 5-star prospect, who told TigerNet Saturday afternoon that he enjoyed the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere of the event.

“It was good. We actually had like a picnic where everybody could just sit down and have fun with all of the new recruits and the coaches,” Terrell told TigerNet. “We were just able to build a family bond. The family part stuck out the most - everybody and all of the coaches treated the recruits like they are family. It's a whole bunch of family bond going on at Clemson. It's a lot of inspiration.”

There was typical cookout food and games that promote a family atmosphere, including a doughnut eating contest that allowed Terrell and the rest of the recruits to get to know the players and coaches better.

“A lot of the players were there doing the games with us and talking to us, but I didn't really have any one-on-one conversations with them,” Terrell said.

Despite being one of Clemson’s top remaining targets, Terrell said the coaches’ message was to enjoy the process and make the best decision for him and his family.

“There wasn't any pressure. They were still doing their recruiting and recruiting me hard, but there was no pressure,” he said. “They want me to take my time to make sure that I'm picking the right school. He (Reed) and all of the coaches were talking to me and in my ear hard, but I'm just taking my time with the recruiting process.”

Terrell also got to spend time with defensive backs coach Mike Reed, and two have a solid relationship.

“We have a great relationship. We text almost every day. He keeps in touch with me and I feel like I can talk to him whenever I want to,” Terrell said. “It feels comfortable. He just tells me that Clemson is a good place, but they lost three good defensive backs after last year and that now is a good time for me to come in and make a name for myself. He has good backs that are disciplined and they follow the system.”

At this point, there’s no timeline for Terrell to make a decision; however, Clemson, Florida and Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama were previously announced as his top six.

“I plan on going to Auburn on Monday. There's no timetable for a decision right now. I just want to make sure I pick the right school” he said. “Clemson is still really high on my list, but there's no order.”

He has national offers from Alabama, Auburn, Charlotte, Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Troy, USC and Virginia Tech.
