Coach Morris said during his Monday interview that tight end
Dwayne AllenDwayne Allen Allen had a slightly different take. “That’s actually a direct quote that I stole from Coach Morris,” Allen said. “When Coach Morris took the job, he sat down with us in the spring and said he was tired of Clemson being all about the Clemson defense and that we needed to change that. If we need to score 70, then we will score 70. We just have to control what we can control and that is putting points on the board. Saturday night, I thought we might actually need to score 70.” He then added that is a far cry from last season, saying, “That is very fair to say it’s different. Last year it was, ‘Guys, if we need to score 26 we will score 26.” Allen also said that the team never panicked, despite being down by double digits. “There was no doubt we would win,” he said. “Down 18, 11 or seven, there was no doubt we were going to win the game. We would get down maybe a touchdown last year, and we would feel the momentum switch. It would change the entire game and we would feel all hope is lost.” On settling
Tajh BoydTajh Boyd “I just try to joke with him and calm him down. After the pick-six I went to him and let him know that was his last pick of the game and last pick of the season. He was able to bounce back and play big for us. The way he ran the ball, he was like a Mack truck or an 18-wheeler. He did a good job of managing the game in the second half and putting the team on his back.” On being a leader “Just being a leader on this team and having guys look up to me is a dream come true. My high school coach always told me, “Dwayne, you can lead a team to a national championship or a bowl game. I am lucky and blessed to be able to lead this team, and I want to lead them to a championship.” On having Chad Morris on the sideline and not in the booth “I could always get on the phone, so it doesn’t matter to me. From a quarterback standpoint though, he goes straight to Coach Morris every time he comes off the field – good, bad or indifferent – he goes to Coach Morris and they talk about it. Having him on the sideline, though, I do have the ability to go to him and find him and tell him what I see.” MLB
Corico HawkinsCorico Hawkins On getting a win despite defensive struggles “A win is a win. Most wins aren’t how you predict them to be. Everything is correctable. One thing we couldn’t practice for was their quarterback – he was really, really fast and had great speed.” On UNC “I have already watched a lot of film on them. They are your typical North Carolina team – smash mouth and like to run the football. Their quarterback is more of a typical pro-style quarterback, but they like to confuse you by showing lots of different fronts and shifting people.” RB
Andre EllingtonAndre Ellington On how getting a full week of practice helped “From the start of the game, I felt really good. Having a hard, full week of practice got me in that position, and I came out in the game and it was easier for me. Being able to practice on Monday thru to Thursday helped. The past couple of weeks, I had had to come out there on Wednesday just to get some game reps. I was able to go on Monday last week.” On team not panicking “Last year, we would have just given up. But things are different this season.”
