made the trip to the upstate from south Florida Saturday for Clemson’s home game against Florida St., and came away feeling right at home.

Brown (Miami Norland High School) was the first commitment in Miami’s 2012 recruiting class, giving the Hurricanes a verbal in September a year ago, but with the recent turmoil surrounding the program decided to take extra visits and arrived on the Clemson campus Friday afternoon.

After an extended stay on campus and taking in Clemson’s thrilling victory over Florida St., the four star linebacker says the Tigers are at the top of his list.

“Clemson is at the top right now if I de-commit,” Brown said. “I’m contemplating it. I still want to talk to my family about it, but I liked everything. Everyone is like a family, everybody is supportive. They are my new number one.”

The 6-2, 230-pounder said he spent time with the Clemson players and then talked to head coach Dabo Swinney and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele about how he would fit into Clemson’s defensive scheme. He also toured Vickery Hall to get a feel for the academic side of life at Clemson, and then took in the game.

“I can see myself going in there, and plugging holes and making tackles,” Brown said. “I can see myself going in there and making some noise. I really like coach Steele. He has sent a lot of linebackers into the NFL and is the type of coach I can see myself playing for.”

Brown said he still wants to a take a few more unofficial visits, and also said he spoke with Hurricane coaches after he arrived back home Sunday.

“They called to see what the situation is,” Brown said. “I’m going to take all of my visits. I don’t know what’s going on at the school and with everything that is going on with them.”

Brown said he will make his decision in December because he plans to enroll in January.
