this past weekend, telling the 3-star safety prospect to arrive on campus in June ready to play.

Gibson, a 6-4, 185-pounder out of Hope Mills (NC) Grays Creek, took an official visit to Clemson this past weekend and spent time with Venables, his future coordinator.

“I talked to [recruiter] Coach [Dan] Brooks and Coach [Mike] Reed most of the time, but I also talked to Coach Venables a lot at the dinner we had,” Gibson told TigerNet. “He was telling me about the defense a little bit. Coach Reed was telling me about the drills he runs and to be prepared. But Coach Venables was telling me he wants me to come in this June ready to play. He doesn’t want to come in and not be as prepared as he wants me to be.”

Despite being six months away from enrolling at Clemson, Gibson took time to get some key pointers from his player host, safety Robert Smith.

“The weekend was great, and my player host was safety Robert Smith,” Gibson said. “We got along pretty good, and he was telling me how the position I am playing is not as difficult as people make it seem. Once you work at it and get it together and get the defense, it will be one of the easiest I have ever played.”

Gibson also spent a lot of time getting to know some of his fellow 2014 recruits as well as other current football payers.

“I spent time with Mike Williams, Korrin Wiggins and Jordan Leggett,” Gibson said. “They are pretty cool and down to earth and they treated me like I was already part of the family. I also got to spend time with current commits Milan Richard Milan Richard

. We all got to know each other a little better.”

A common theme among many of the visitors was getting to know the rest of the 2014 recruiting class, and Gibson echoed that sentiment.

“Just spending time with the current players and commits and getting closer to them,” Gibson said. “Before, I have always seen them at games and on Twitter, but we’ve never actually really talked. Now I see what they mean about family at Clemson. We became closer over a two-day span. When we all get there together it will be great.”

As a senior, Gibson played both offense and defense. On offense, he completed 13-of-40 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown, carried the ball 32 times for 149 yards and a touchdown, and caught three passes for 34 yards and one score.

Defensively, he had 38 tackles and three interceptions.
