Eric Mac Lain's brother accepts preferred walk-on offer

The younger Mac Lain is a 2013 tight end prospect out of Fayetteville (NC) Jack Britt who had been in talks with several area programs, but decided recently that he wanted to make Clemson his home.

In an interview with TigerNet this past weekend, he detailed why he decided to walk on with the Tigers.

“I have been there several times, and of course my brother goes there,” Mac Lain said. “The atmosphere is great, and the coaching staff and the players make it feel like a family there. I have been on several recruiting visits, and I’ve been to several D1 schools, and there is no other school that matches the feel of Clemson.”

“Coach Brooks grabbed me after the Maryland game, and he brought me into the locker room after the win,” he said. “Everybody was celebrating and doing their own thing, but he pulled me aside and said he had talked to Coach Swinney, and if I wanted to come to Clemson I would have a spot on the team, and that I would be a preferred walk-on.”

Mac Lain said it was only recently that he decided to accept the offer.

“It was something I really always wanted to do,” he said. “But we needed to talk it over and see if any other opportunities came along. But this is what I really wanted to do. This is my most recent decision, and it is the one I will stick to. Right now, I am just talking to Coach Brooks through my brother. I will call him later on and let him know that was my final decision.”

Mac Lain’s older brother, Eric, was a 4-star prospect out of Jack Britt who redshirted during the 2011 season but saw action at both tight end and on the offensive line this past season. He will move to the offensive line full time during the spring.

Sean said his older brother is happy the two get the chance to play together.

“He is excited. He can’t wait for me to come down.”
