Brent Venables We reported last week that Venables – whose defense finished the season ranked first nationally – had signed a four-year contract extension that would keep him in Clemson through the 2018 season. Venables received a nearly half-million dollar raise, increasing his annual salary to $1.35 million beginning next season. With the receipt of the contract, new details have emerged. Here are the highlights: *Venables will be paid a base salary of $245,000 and will be paid a supplemental salary of $1,105,000 each year for the length of the contract. *The contract runs through January 31st, 2019, and the date of the amendment to the original contract was December 15, 2014. Buyouts *In the event that Venables were to terminate his contract, he would owe Clemson University 25 percent of the amount remaining on the term of his contract (including base salary and supplemental salary), unless head coach

If a car is provided, the school will pay or reimburse the insurance and all applicable taxes. Performance bonuses *$10,000 if the team plays in the conference championship game AND…. *10,000 if the team plays in a bowl game that is NOT the College Football Playoff if the team achieved seven or more wins OR… *$20,000 if the team plays in a bowl game that is NOT the College Football Playoff if the team achieved eight or more wins OR…. *$40,000 if the team plays in a College Football Playoff game that is not the semifinal game of the College Football Playoff OR… *$50,000 if the team plays in the semifinal game of the College Football Playoff OR…. *$60,000 if the team plays in the championship game of the College Football Playoff OR… *85,000 if the team wins the championship game of the College Football Playoff *The bonuses will kick in within 60 days of the conclusion of the event

resigns or is no longer employed by Clemson or Venables takes a head coaching position on the collegiate or professional level. In other words, if Venables leaves to take a job with another program that is not a head coaching position, he owes 25 percent of the sum total of the remainder of the contract. If he leaves to become a head coach there is no buyout.
