Death Valley impresses during recruiting weekend

Tre Lamar made his second trip to Clemson in a little over a month

The Clemson coaching staff didn’t host a ton of big name recruits this past weekend, but Death Valley and the Clemson crowd impressed the three 2016 4-star recruits who were on hand as Clemson defeated South Carolina State 73-7.

View Full Profile ’s high school camp over the summer and Clemson’s spring game, but wanted to see Clemson’s game day atmosphere first hand.

“It was awesome. I loved it,” Cooper told TigerNet Sunday. “My mom loved the game as well. The atmosphere really stood out. I went to the spring game, but I've never had a chance to see a game situation. I truly just like the fan base behind the team.”

As a sophomore, Cooper completed 83-of-156 passes for 1,200 yards and six touchdowns while splitting time with Jonesboro’s senior signal caller.

Lamar was just in Clemson for a practice earlier in August where he was able tour the facilities, sit in on team meetings and watch one of the Tigers fall camp practice sessions. However, he couldn’t wait to get back to Clemson to see Death Valley come alive on game day.

“It went really good. My dad and I made the trip,” Lamar told TigernNet Sunday. “The biggest highlight was being able to see the environment on game day and being able to talk to the coaches.”

In 2013, Lamar tallied 67 tackles, four sacks, 25 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries and one interception in just six games.

Edwards has a long line of Clemson alumni in his family and has been a frequent visitor at Clemson games over the last two years, but he wanted to show his mother what Clemson was all about.

“It was great,” Edwards told TigerNet Sunday. “It was really fun. I got to see them play S.C. State. I brought my family up for the first time. It was my mom's first trip to Clemson. It was pretty fun.”

During his freshman and sophomore seasons, Edwards hauled in 83 passes for 905 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also spent five games on defense as a freshman and registered 36 tackles, two fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups.
