is such an emotional player – and person – that he would rather have him than any other person in charge of school spirit.

Lawry (6-1, 175) was offered by the Clemson Tigers recently, and Barnette said that his rising senior is as spirited a player as he has ever had.

, another Clemson offer] since middle school,” Barnette told TigerNet. “McNeil is the guy you want facing the media after a tough loss, because he just never changes. But Damein is the guy you want leading the pep rally at the school before a big game. He is very emotional, and very much a leader.”

Lawry, who most likely will play defense in college, caught 40 passes for 660 yards a year ago, and he registered 32 tackles and an interception on defense. Barnette says that Lawry will get even better once he finds one position in college.

“He has played for me since the eighth grade, and he is able to run and jump and play multiple positions,” Barnette said. “His ceiling is extremely high. He has tons of athletic ability, and his motor never stops running. For Clemson fans, all I can say is that he reminds me of C.J. spiller, the way he can use his hips and turn. If he has a good offseason, and gets a year of good meals and gets his body right, he will get even better.”

Lawry has offers from most of the big schools in the Big 12 and PAC-10, but said he has enjoyed learning what Clemson has to offer.

“It was a real surprise to me when they offered, but it was an honor,” Lawry said. “I didn’t know a lot about Clemson, except for some of the really good defensive players they have had. I was surprised when I got the offer. But it makes me happy, and it makes my family happy. I never thought I would be getting this kind of attention from schools like that. I am just a kid from the hood, so I feel good about it.”

Lawry said he is sifting through all of the offers, but doesn’t have a favorite.

“I am looking for a place that combines football and academics,” he said. “I am hoping I can play in the NFL. I don’t have a top five, and my book is open. I am going to go through it and make a decision before my senior season starts. I am definitely considering Clemson, and they are considering me. I have gotten to know Coach [Chad] Morris really well, and he is a really good guy. He is a good coach and he knows what he is talking about.”
