out of Greenville (NC) Rose gave his verbal commitment to the Clemson Tigers in a ceremony at his school, and he told TigerNet shortly after the announcement that Clemson’s reputation for putting wide receivers in the NFL played a big part in his decision.

“It was pretty exciting to announce my decision. I chose Clemson because they are known for putting wide receivers in the league,” Powell told TigerNet. “They've had the most in the last couple of years at the Division I college level. I felt like when I visited Clemson twice that it was the place for me, so I went ahead and committed.”

set to announce later today. With the addition of Skalski, the Clemson coaching staff now has six commitments for the 2016 recruiting cycle. He is also the second wide receiver commit for the cycle, joining 4-star prospect T.J. ChaseT.J. Chase

out of Bradenton (FL) IMG.

All three were on hand for Clemson’s Elite Junior Day this past weekend, and Powell said it was that visit that helped him make up his mind.

“I knew that Clemson was the place for me on Sunday,” Powell said. “When I came home from Clemson Saturday night and I woke up Sunday after I slept on it and I woke up with the same feeling that Clemson was just the place for me.”

Shortly after his decision had been made, Powell called the Clemson coaches to let them know.

“I told the coaches before I made my announcement,” Powell said. “I called Coach [Jeff] Scott and he put me on the phone with Coach [Dabo] Swinney. Coach Swinney was very excited and happy. He kept telling me that he can't wait for me to get back down there, so we can live it up.”

Powell also said that Clemson’s stable of talented quarterbacks also helped in the decision-making process – the Tigers have Deshaun Watson, Kelly BryantKelly Bryant

on hand.

“I actually met all three of them when I went up there on my visit,” Powell said. “Having someone who can throw you the ball really helps out your decision, too. Those three are at the top of their game at that level. Deshaun Watson is going to be a Heisman front-runner next year. Kelly Bryant, he was All-State and he's already at Clemson. Tucker Israel is a great player, too, so that really had an impact on my decision.”

What kind of player are the Tigers getting in Powell?

“I'm fast off the ball. Physical. I can go get the deep ball,” he said. “Very versatile. Play well on the field. Playmaker with the ball in my hands."

Powell had 67 receptions for 1248 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. He also had 12 rushes for 83 yards and two scores. As a kick-off returner, he had 14 returns for 445 yards and a touchdown.

He had 47 catches for 1,228 yards and 21 touchdowns as a sophomore.

He has offers from Alabama, Clemson, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Wake Forest, West Virginia and others.
