Clemson offers Easley's Fuller

View Full Profile picked up an offer from Clemson on Tuesday, the first of what his head coach feels like will be many offers.

A 2014 prospect, Fuller has been blowing away the opposition, gaining 1575 yards on 148 carries with a long of 91 yards and has scored 14 touchdowns. He is averaging 175 yards per game and 10.6 yards per rush. He has also caught five passes for 101 yards, with three of those going for touchdowns. Add in his kickoff return yards, and Fuller is averaging 199.9 all-purpose yards per game.

His head coach at Easley, Chad Smith, said the Tigers are the first offer for the talented junior.

“Coach [Brad] Scott called me yesterday, and I knew they were checking on his grades and had checked on his transcript,” Smith told TigerNet Tuesday. “He called and we talked about some stuff and he said that Coach [Dabo] Swinney wanted me to call him on his personal line at his office and he would be expecting me. I figured I knew what it was.”

It was a verbal offer for Fuller.

“I called him up and he offered C.J. at that time,” Smith said. “He told me he would be busy for the rest of the day, but he wanted C.J. to call him back. I told C.J. and he was excited and the rest is history. Several schools have shown interest, but Clemson was the first to pull the trigger. Coach Swinney wanted me to make sure that Clemson was the first, and he didn’t want C.J. to feel like they were offering because someone else was offering.”

Fuller told TigerNet that he was excited to get the offer.

“It was just exciting. I was overwhelmed,” Fuller said. “I called him and left him a voicemail. Hopefully we can talk later. They offered me as an athlete, and I prefer running back, but right now that doesn’t matter.”

Fuller attended Clemson’s 38-17 win over Virginia Tech Saturday.

“It was a good game. It started out slow, but they picked up the pace,” Fuller said. “That is why Clemson has a good team. I loved the visit.”

Smith says Fuller grew up as a Clemson fan.

“He was extremely excited, like any other young person would be,” Smith sad. “He grew up a Clemson fan, but he is realistic about that stuff and he told me he will go home and talk it over with his family. He said he wanted to commit fairly early, but he doesn’t want to commit during football season. He basically said he will pray on it and go from there. He is a huge Clemson fan and that is huge, but he also knows that he can play Division I football and that is big for anybody.”

Fuller said he will listen to what other schools have to say, including North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia Tech, before making a decision.

“I am going to take a look at everybody out there and pick the school that fits me best,” he said. “The most important thing to me is education, and then location.”
