Clemson at Auburn: Who got the snaps?

by - Senior Writer -

Four Clemson true freshmen earned the first snaps of their collegiate career Saturday at Auburn.

Linebacker Tre Lamar earned eight snaps at middle linebacker and special teams, while linebacker Jamie Skalski and defensive back K’Von Wallace played strictly on special teams. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence led the freshmen with 37 snaps, earning his first career sack and blocking for Wayne Gallman’s one-yard touchdown run.

The game was also notable in that Clemson’s offensive line played the entire game – left tackle Mitch Hyatt, left guard, Taylor Hearn, center Jay Guillermo, right guard Tyrone Crowder and right tackle Jake Fruhmorgen each played 81 snaps.

Four defensive players played all 71 snaps – Ben Boulware, Jadar Johnson, Van Smith and Cordrea Tankersley.

Head coach Dabo Swinney told the media Tuesday that he wishes he had done a better job of getting more players in the game.

“That was probably one of the biggest disappointments for me out of the game,” Swinney said. “I did a poor job of managing our personnel like I wanted to. Again, first game, very difficult place, and I am going to do a better job of that. In fact, I apologized to some of the guys. It is frustrating to me to have some guys that deserve to play that don’t get the opportunity to get in there.

“A guy like Maverick Morris, a guy like Justin Falcinelli , they deserve to play. Again, there is no

entitlement to play and sometimes you have guys that are pretty close, kind of like what we have at defensive tackle right now, and you just play them. The thing is, you have situations like a Tre’ Lamar, he is a young guy. Kendall Joseph has been here for three years, he is coming, but those eight plays Lamar got were critical. I did a poor job. Albert Huggins was another guy that should have played that didn’t get in there. You will see that is an area that we have to do a better job of and that’s all me so I have to do a better job managing that a whole lot better.”
