5-star inside linebacker says Clemson one of best trips he has taken

One of the nation’s top linebacker recruits for the 2014 recruiting cycle was in Clemson when the Tigers defeated N.C. State 62-48 a weekend ago, and he called it one of the best visits he has made to date.

McMillan told TigerNet Tuesday evening that he got to see former teammate Shadrach Thornton – now a running back for N.C. State – before the game, and then watched Clemson’s defense give up 48 points and a ton of passing yards to the Wolfpack.

View Full Profile told McMillan he could be a huge part of the 2014 Clemson recruiting class.

“I talk to Coach Scott all the time,” he said. “He tells me how much they need me, and I can see what Clemson needs defensively. It really wasn’t a defensive game.”

McMillan also took in Clemson’s win over Virginia Tech back in October, but said the N.C. State trip really stood out.

“It was one of the best trips I have taken,” he said. “My grandmother was with me, and she got to meet Coach [Dabo] Swinney and we took pictures with him and talked to him. Overall, it was one of the best trips I have taken.”

The 6-3, 235-pounder watched Ohio St. beat Michigan last Saturday, and says the Buckeyes and Tigers are in his top five. However, he doesn’t expect to make a decision until next season.

“Right now, I am just weighing my options,” he said. “I am definitely going to wait until my senior season and make a decision at one of the all-star games. Right now, I like Ohio St., Clemson, Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame. Clemson is definitely in the mix.”

McMillan said there is one that stands out to him when it comes to Clemson.

“There is just a family vibe there that I really like,” he said. “It starts with the coaches, and goes down to the players. It is just the kind of place where you feel at home.”

As a junior, he recorded a whopping 152 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception. As a sophomore, he had 97 tackle and 15 tackles for loss.
