Saturday, however, was different for the 4-star linebacker out of Greensboro (NC) Dudley. He knew that every player in attendance at Clemson’s Elite Junior Day had a Clemson offer, but he was pleasantly surprised when the coaches managed to take the time to talk to him and his family.

“It was big for my family to see Clemson,” Register told TigerNet Saturday evening. “They got to see the campus and see what the program is all about. They also liked the fact that if I work hard, I can come in here and play early.”

Register said he got to see parts of the campus he had never seen before.

“I got to see the weight room, and I really liked going into the locker room and saw all of the stuff they got from the Chick-fil-A Bowl,” Register said. “That really jumped out at me, just seeing all of the gear. And then we went to Vickery Hall, and saw where the players study. We also went over and saw Howard’s Rock and The Hill.”

Once the tours were over, he and his family got to spend time with the Clemson coaches.

“I talked to Coach Swinney, and he told me how much he really wants me at Clemson,” Register said. “We also spent a lot of time with Coach [Brent] Venables, and we talked about playing linebacker. Coach [Robbie] Caldwell is my main recruiter, and he talked to my family.”

He also got to spend time with new secondary coach Mike ReedMike Reed

“We still stay in touch,” he said. “It was good to see. I know he is excited about Clemson.”

Where does Clemson stand with Register?

“They are still on top,” he said. “This was a great visit. They are right there with North Carolina and North Carolina St.”

As a junior, Register recorded 110 tackles, nine tackles for loss, seven sacks, two interceptions, five forced fumbles and three passes broken up. As a sophomore he recorded 89 tackles, 8.5 sacks, two interceptions, six pass breakups and three forced fumbles in nine games.
