“While I’m sorry to see Cory leave, I certainly understand his desire to be closer to home,” Brownell said. “We appreciate all his hard work and wish him nothing but the best in the future.” Stanton appeared in 33 games as a freshman in 2010-11. He played 10.7 minutes per game and averaged 2.4 points per game. He added 25 assists and 20 steals for the season. He recorded a career-high nine points against Michigan in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge last November. “I wish all the coaches and players, and everyone involved with the basketball program the best in the future,” Stanton said. “I know they are going to continue to do great things. I love Clemson, the campus and the basketball program. At this time, I feel it is in my best interest to continue my playing career and continue working toward my degree closer to home.”

has left the Clemson basketball program, Head Coach Brad Brownell announced Monday. Stanton intends to transfer to another institution closer to his hometown of Springfield, TN.
