•With this win, Clemson now has a 9-6 record in the ACC and has clinched a winning season in league play for the second consecutive season. Clemson was 10-6 in the ACC last year. This is the first time in over 40 years that Clemson has had back to back winning league seasons. Clemson last did it in 1965-66 (8-6) and 1966-67 (9-5). This is just the 11th winning season in ACC play for the Tigers in 56 years in the league.

•Clemson now has a 69-29 all-time record in home senior night games, including a 30-8 record over the last 38 seasons. Clemson is 19-8 against ACC teams during that period.

•Tonight was Clemson’s seventh win in ACC play by at least double digits. That is a Clemson record for a regular season. The previous record was six set last year.

•The victory gave Clemson its 23rd regular season victory. This is the most regular season wins for the program since the 1989-90 season when Clemson had 23 regular season wins. The record is 25 by the 1986-87 team. That team won 25 in the regular season, then lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.

•Clemson has won 19 ACC games over the last two years, more than in any two-year period in Clemson history.

•Tonight was the ninth Clemson league win against the eighth different team. The Clemson record for different teams defeated in an ACC regular season is nine, set last year. Clemson could tie that mark with a win over Wake Forest on Sunday. The record for a season including the ACC tournament is 10, set last year. Clemson added Duke to its list with its ACC Tournament Semifinal win last year.

•Trevor Booker had his 11th double-double of the season in tonight’s win and the Tigers are 10-1 this year when he gets a double-double. It was his seventh double-double in ACC play this year, the high figure in the league in ACC play by any ACC player. It was his 20th career double-double, tying him for 10th place in Clemson history in that category with Larry Nance (1977-81). Booker had 15 rebounds in the game, including 10 in the second half. The 15 rebounds were his high total since he had 16 at Miami on December 21, 2008. It was his fifth straight game of at least 12 rebounds.

•Booker got his 200th career blocked shots this evening and he is now just the second ACC player in history listed 6-7 or less with 200 career blocks. Former Maryland center Derrick Lewis (1985-88) is the only other ACC player 6-7 or less to reach 200 blocks.

•Raymond Sykes scored 14 points on his senior night. That was his high figure in an ACC game in is Clemson career. His overall career high is 17 against Mississippi last year.

•Clemson won the game this evening despite committing 16 turnovers. Clemson is now 2-5 this year when committing at least 15 turnovers.

•Terrence Oglesby made 10-10 free throws for a career high in attempts and makes from the foul line. He was 6-6 on technical free throws.

•Technically, Clemson scored 43 bench points this evening, a season high. Of course that counted 18 points from Terrence Oglesby, who came off the bench so Jesse Yanutola could start on senior night.

*Three technical fouls were called on Virginia in tonight’s game. There had not been a single technical foul called on either Clemson or the opposition in 15 previous games in Littlejohn Coliseum this year.

•Clemson’s defense held Virginia freshman Sylven Landesberg to three points and no field goals in this evening’s game. Earlier this year, Landesberg led Virginia in scoring with 23 points on 11 field goals in an 85-81 Virginia victory in overtime against the Tigers.

Post-Game Coaches’ Quotes

Clemson Head Coach Oliver Purnell

On Game

“I was pleased with our second half performance. We had 10 turnovers in the first half, and corrected that and only had 5 in the second. We were able to win the rebounding battle and play sticky defense. Sometimes senior night can be hard emotionally, and those emotions can slow you down. I thought in the beginning we were slow, but the emotions took over and gave intensity in the second. It was definitely a much needed win.”

On Landesburg

“We wanted to bring defensive energy. Watching the defense on him in the first game was painful, so we wanted to bring more energy to slow him down.”

On Second Half Defense

“We went full court man. They got some easy looks in the first, so we took that away and got a few turnovers.”

On Inside Game

“We made a point to attack inside. We were slow and tentative early on, but after the half we got into it.”

On Confidence After Two Losses

“You do not want to lose three games in a row. It can play with your mind, I believe we are resilient enough but I didn’t want to go there. It was another huge ACC game that we needed to win.”

On K.C.’s Senior Night

“I am not disappointed because he went out as a winner. He has won more games than any other player and I think that is more significant.”

Virginia Head Coach Dave Leitao

On how Clemson took control of the game:

“Strategically, they got some point blank lay-ups and dunks that fueled them early. That put the onus on our half-court offense, and we did not do a very good job there.”

On whether his team needs to take the ball stronger to the basket:

“I don’t think it’s that we need to take the ball up stronger. I do think we have missed a lot of point blank lay-ups, shots around the basket, open jump shots, more this year than I’ve seen.”

On how to deal with teams focusing on Sylven Landesberg:

“It has caused some frustration on his part. We need to get him some help from the other guys. We have to move the ball better; we had seven assists tonight, which is not very good.”
