Clemson to Face La Tech in NIT

by -

CLEMSON -- Clemson (18-12) received a No. 4 seed in the NIT and will host Louisiana Tech (20-12) on Wednesday at 7PM.

Despite playing a tough out-of-conference schedule that included road games at Memphis, Wisconsin, Alabama, Texas Tech and Nebraska, the Bulldogs won 20 games for the first time since 2001-02, when Tech posted a 22-10 mark and advanced to the semifinals of the NIT Tournament before falling 67-64 to Villanova.

“This basketball team has traveled all over the country this season to play,” Bulldog head coach Keith Richard said. “We haven’t been to (the state of) South Carolina yet, so I guess we will go there as well.

“(Regardless of where we have played) these guys have showed up every night and competed, and I expect that we will do the same (Wednesday).”

Led by All-American forward Paul Millsap, who is on pace to become the first player in NCAA history to lead the country in rebounding three straight seasons, Tech posted impressive road wins at Texas Tech, Southern Illinois and Hawaii this season.

Clemson last appeared in the NIT in 2005 when it lost to Texas A&M 82-74 in the first round. In 1999 the Tigers advanced to the championship game at Madison Square Garden. Clemson defeated Georgia, Rutgers, Butler and Xavier before losing to California 61-60, a loss that was suffered on the last possession of the game.
