called Brownell and made it official.

The 6-2, 165-pound shooting guard out of Charlotte (N.C.) Christian said he knew following a visit this past weekend that Clemson was the place he wanted to be.

“I grew up near Clemson, and I have a history there,” Rooks told TigerNet Monday. “My mom went to Clemson, and my dad was recruited there at a very young age. I wasn’t planning on making a decision this early, but after visiting yesterday, it felt like home.”

Rooks said he made it home to Charlotte, and decided to talk over his decision with the people he trusts the most.

“I had to talk to my mom and dad about it first,” he said. “Then I called both my high school coach and my AAU coach, and they told me they were behind me 100 percent and that I had their approval. So I called coach Brownell, and I told him I had talked to the people closest to me and that I had made the decision I wanted to be a Tiger. He told me that he was very excited.”

He was recruited by assistant coach Earl Grant, and said the fact that he felt comfortable with the entire staff made his decision easier.

“I love the staff,” he said. “I wouldn’t have committed if I didn’t. Coach Grant has been recruiting me through the whole process, and I like him a lot. I figured since they fit my style of play, hopefully I can come in and be a big-time shooter for the school.”

During his sophomore campaign, Rooks averaged 15 points, three rebounds and three assists per game.
