Tigers drop three spots in baseball poll

DURHAM, N.C.—Florida's emphatic sweep at then-No. 8 Louisiana State capped the Gators' perfect 4-0 week and kept them atop the Baseball America Top 25 for the sixth straight week.

Virginia continued its hot start to the season, beating then-No. 6 Florida State in a weekend series. The Cavaliers' win combined with then-No. 3 Oklahoma's losses at Arizona State and at home against Texas A&M allowed Virginia to climb to No. 3 in this week's rankings.

Texas A&M used its series win at Oklahoma and a midweek victory against Cal State Fullerton to vault from No. 21 into the top 10 at No. 8. Fresno State also jumped into the top 10 from No. 17, reaching No. 10 this week after sweeping Washington State.

The Top 25's biggest mover in the other direction was Baylor. The Bears fell from No. 14 to No. 21 after a 2-2 week that included a series loss at home to Texas Tech.

Two new teams entered the Baseball America Top 25 this week. Auburn beat SEC foes Alabama and Arkansas to join the rankings at No. 22. Oregon State's 12-game winning streak was snapped Sunday at Long Beach State, but the Beavers' series victory was enough for them to debut at No. 23.

Connecticut and College of Charleston both dropped out of the rankings after poor weekends at the Cougar Invitational in Charleston, S.C.

Oregon State's arrival in the Top 25 gives the Pac-10 six ranked teams, the most of any conference. The ACC and SEC both have five ranked teams.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of March 20 and do not include ties.
