Clemson, SC -

Georgia Tech scored six runs in the first five innings and held on for a 6-4 win over Clemson in front of 4,740 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Sunday. The #6 Yellow Jackets won the series 2-1 and improved to 32-12 (18-6 ACC), while the Tigers dropped to 28-18 (13-8 ACC).

Ryan Turner (5-1) pitched 6.1 innings, giving up four runs and nine hits to earn the win. Tim Gustafson retired all four batters he faced to pick up his first save of the year. Kris Harvey (5-3) suffered the loss. For the second-straight night, the Tiger bullpen gave the offense a chance, but Clemson could not come through with a clutch hit, as several Tigers hit line-drive outs right at Georgia Tech fielders in the last three innings.

Travis Storrer was 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Herman Demmink was 2-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Taylor Harbin was also 3-for-5, as Clemson out-hit Georgia Tech 12-10. Tyler Greene, Steven Blackwood, Jeff Kindel, and Wes Hodges each had two hits for the Yellow Jackets, as all 10 hits were singles. Both teams left 11 runners on base.

Georgia Tech got on the board in the second with an unearned run. A failed pickoff attempt by Harvey allowed Jeff Kindel to move to second base, and he later scored on Whit Robbins' sacrifice fly to right.

Two of the Yellow Jackets' first three batters in the third walked, and a single through the right side by Matt Wieters scored Jake Hall. Kindel followed with a single up the middle to score Blackwood. Hodges hit another single up the middle, scoring Wieters, ending the day on the mound for Harvey.

In the fourth, Harbin singled with one out but was erased on Tyler Colvin's fielder's choice groundout. Harvey singled through the left side, and Storrer singled to left to score Colvin.

Georgia Tech answered in the fifth. Wes Hodges hit a single up the middle with one out that plated both Wieters and Blackwood, putting the Yellow Jackets up 6-1.

The Tigers missed scoring opportunities in the fourth and fifth, leaving a combined five runners on base in those two innings alone.

A Storrer walk followed by two-out singles by Stan Widmann and pinch-hitter Ben Hall loaded the bases for Clemson in the sixth. Demmink then laced a 3-2 pitch into left to score Storrer and Widmann.

Reliever Daniel Moskos came on to pitch with one out and runners at second and third in the seventh. He forced Danny Payne to hit into a double play after Payne was retired at first and Hodges was tagged out trying to score from third.

Harbin led off the seventh with a bunt single down the third base line. Colvin lined out to left, and Harvey flew out to left. Storrer then tripled down the right field line, scoring Harbin.

With two outs and the bases empty in the eighth, Demmink and Chalk hit back-to-back singles. Georgia Tech then went to Gustafson, who got Harbin to fly out to right to end the inning.

Colvin led off the ninth with a hard groundout to second base, bringing his 19-game hitting streak to an end. He hit the ball in each of his last three at-bats without a hit to show for it. Two batters later, Storrer hit a hard liner, but right at the right fielder for the game's final out.

The Tigers will take a week off for final exams before returning to action Sunday at Virginia Tech at 1:00 PM.
