Your thoughts on getting the new contract done.

One thing I think we need to keep in mind. I don't think there was ever a question as to whether the athletic department and Terry Don Phillips wanted me to continue as head baseball coach and there was never a question as to whether I wanted to continue as the baseball coach here. I love Clemson, and I love the school. The administration has been very supportive of us and our baseball program. I have got great assistant coaches and a good group of young men that come through our program all the time. And we have a tremendous fan base, and probably as good as a college baseball atmosphere as you can expect anywhere in the country. And I'm already excited about the upcoming year. That was never the question. Sometimes it just takes some time for things to work their way out. Every body gets busy doing what they are doing and I get caught up in things and sometimes good things just take a little while to formulate. I am just excited about this whole thing taking place, and I'm excited about coming back to Clemson, of course and looking forward to the year ahead.

You were recruiting with one year on your contract and now you have five. That has to make a difference.

It does help. There is no question. I can't of tell you the number of kids who ask us. During the recruiting process, you get close to kids. Sulley gets close to them. TR gets close to them. I get very close to them. The parents do. They get to trust you. They are entrusting their son with you to come to Clemson University. Everyone of them when they are making decision to go to another school or going to Clemson and signing professionally or coming to school here they do want to know whether the coach is going to be there. You are the closest thing to them that is attached to Clemson University that they know of during that recruiting process. So they want to know whether you are going to be there or not. This is an important step. This is making all our recruits feel comfortable that the coaching staff is going to be there. I can’t tell you the number of calls during the summer and emails after we got after Omaha, all the people that support our program and hope all this is going to work out. So they had a big part of this too. We have a great fan base. We have great group of people that love Clemson baseball. I want them to know their enthusiasm and the enthusiasm in this arena here at Doug Kingsmore during regional and super regionals and how they followed us throughout Omaha and all the positive feedback we got from that went a long ways to making this work
