hartwell is easily deep enough to be classified as an official lake, a true lake has to be deep enough to have a layer where light is lower than 1%, with hartwells clarity it's prob pitch black beyond 50'. Think hartwell has spots over 150' in depth

Ummmm 87.5 square miles is rather large for a pond. It's not a sea or an ocean mind you, but lake seems to be the right fit.

It's a good lake. Even though it gets very warm in mid summer in the cove they are in. Almost bath water like.

When you cross over Hartwell toward Seneca from Clemson, the sign says "Seneca River".

Hartwell is the 58th largest lake in the country, per a list on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_lakes_of_the_United_States_by_area
Most of the largest lakes are man made.
It runs pretty true to the original Seneca River riverbed around Clemson due to the two dikes. It basically the Seneca River kept in a permanent flooded state.

Talking up the lake at Clemson gets the SEC Rant people stirred up. It is so funny.
I recommend signing up and doing that.
