We've covered the mountains so now lets hear it for the flatlands. I lived in Belle Glade, FL, in he early 1950's. The elevation at Belle Glade is sixteen feet above sea level. Belle Glade is on the Southeastern portion of Lake Okeechobee in the Everglades. It is so flat one can look to the East and see tomorrow and look to the West and see yesterday. Around Lake Okeechobee is a ####. I don't remember how high it was. maybe ten or twelve feet, but when we were on top of the ####, it felt like we on top of Mt. Everest. Had it not been for the trees in the distance, we could have seen the Atlantic Ocean when looking East and the Gulf of Mexico when looking West. But no matter the direction we faced, we could always see a few alligators. And, while standing on the #### with a rod and reel, would probably have reeled in a bass that would be big enough to feed a family of four for supper.
