When I was a student at Clemson in 1983 or 1984, I lived in some off campus apartments during the first summer school session. I remember being at a swimming area on Lake Hartwell one afternoon when there was a solar eclipse. I was relaxing on a float when it occurred. I had not seen any news about it, so it was quite a shock, but very cool!

will have the highest amount of population in its path. It goes right across Kansas City and the 3 major SC cities.
It will have its longest duration in extreme Western Kentucky at around 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
The last total solar eclipse on the continental USA was in 1979.
The next one in the USA will be in 2024, a total eclipse that will cut across Mexico and Texas.
The last time a total eclipse was EXCLUSIVELY in the USA was in 1237, which of course was way before the USA was a country and it wilt happen again until 2316

People from 6-7 states are planning on heading down I-77 to catch the eclipse around the Columbia area.
I predict a massive traffic jam.

I was in what was called a total eclipse in 1971 I think. Living in laurinburg NC. It got pitch black dark in middle of the day, temps dropped like 20 degrees and wind blew, birds chirped, dogs howled and as it became lighter the chickens crowed. It was actually rather creepy but exciting. . I know folks say there hasn't been another total eclipse in the US but I don't how it could have gotten any darker!

Oh yeah that must have been it! I was trying to decide if it was 1970 or 71. Laurinburg NC is near the coast which is exactly under the path shown. It seemed like it lasted longer than you would think as it goes from the partial eclipse gradually into the full then slowly back to light. Thanks for the map!

It will last 2 mins 36 secs for me. Download Eclipse2017.org app and it will tell you the time and length of total darkness at your location. Eclipse glasses are for sale cheap on Amazon.com
