Jake Venables ???

Would it be legal for him to walk on in 2018,parents pay his way,then be given a full ride in 2019 when 27 scholarships are available.? Not saying it should be done, just wondering about the legality of it.

I believe so. Its a parent and so an existing relationship. If some benefactor was paying then I suspect not. MY opinion here. I'm not a rules expert.

I am sure something similar could be worked out.

But from a talent standpoint, he has earned it. Jake will be a good ball player here.

Also, from a relationship standpoint...it would be difficult for Dabo to ask another professional co-worker (especially the #1 defensive co-ord) to do that. No matter how close we think they are, that dynamic is going to be different than best friends or even real family (brother sister dad son).

When you add the professional setting, it really changes how things should be done.

Unless Venables goes to Dabo and suggests it, then that would be okay then to consider.

What you need to consider is, not only are we getting a good football player, but the #1 Defensive Coordinator in the country just committed for 5 more years.

Same goes with Dabo and his son walking on.

Seems like that would be a grey shirt, which is a standard practice.

I'm a capitalist, so not saying he has not earned his money, but since Jake would pay instate rates, Coach V can certainly cover one semester of fees and not feel too big a dent in his bank account. Adding one more ESPN300 recruit would seem to be worth it -- even from Venables' perspective.

but I understand what your saying about the size of next years class, but would 1 scholarship really help out that much?
