Question about the Top Recruits Annually

Why do a good portion of each year's top recruits seem to be Defensive Linemen? Is it the importance of the position, or is there something about DE and DT that makes them easier to grade out or more confidently project? Or is this just a coincidence in the last few years and not really a long term trend?

Changes, in '70-80's RBs, 90-00's QBs, now DEs to rush QBs

2 main reasons: importance and ease of transition

The DL, and especially the DEs are only beat out in importance by your QBs and OTs. That's a big reason why so many great athletes are DEs because they are super important for putting pressure on the QB.

The second reason is because there is a pretty easy transition from high school to college for DEs and especially DTs. The techniques and assignments are rather simple when compared to a QB, OL, DB or other positions.
