Never got the CBB/Tommy Bowden comparisons

Brownell is much more like Tommy West to me. Likeable guy who really couldn't recruit and always had us around .500.
Tommy Bowden's era is more comparable to OP's era to me.

Tommy Bowden was a much better recruiter than Brownell. I agree with you.

Seemed like we were always getting excited about some recruit who couldn't get into school in those days.

We would get excited about recruits that weren't even truly that big time, but we would build them up as fans. Idiris Price etc

Very true. Tommy had us ranked too. Last game we played as a ranked team was the Gameday game against Duke

Very likable and overmatched. Bowden had X's and O's coaching skills but lacked extrovert leadership personality and high likability ...
