Agreed, thanks feminism

For having the unmitigated gall to suggest that women can be strong and don't have to remain silent.

Honestly the nerve to think that girls should be taught that they aren't the only ones who need to learn to be polite. Dangit they need to stay gentle and silent. Glad Jameis is fighting the good fight.

First, no feminists were quoted as criticizing Winston in

Feb 23, 2017, 11:07 AM

the article. Second, you don't know what a feminist is. Third, he's not "under fire"--he was said to have given an "uplifting" speech.

The message of the article, which you missed by a mile, is simply that people should choose their words carefully. Here's the last sentence of the article--I'm guessing by this point you had stopped reading:

"...Winston’s gaffe ought to remind everyone to think about the words they choose, and the messages they’re sending, even if they’re inadvertent."

And Winston, to his credit, said he used "poor word choice."

How in the world did you get "under fire" out of that relatively tame piece of writing?

There's somebody here with a political agenda, and it's you.

THANK YOU!***

That's right. Feminists generally aren't.***

every other article online suggests otherwise

cf espn, washington post, deadspin, ftw

all highly critical of him

usually pointless to argue with feministbackers so ill leave it here.

So, what is your point

Feb 23, 2017, 12:04 PM

Is your point that there was nothing wrong with his words as he said them? (ie boys should be strong and girls should be gentle and silent)

Or are you upset he's catching (honestly quite limited) flack for it?

He said something stupid. He chose poor words. It's not a crime and I'm not calling for his head, and I don't see anyone doing that either. Of course you can probably find some over reaction to these words by someone out there, but that can be said every time someone says something stupid.

Then the OP should reference those rather than link to the

article he did. His argument didn't match up with his evidence...that's on him...I can't make his argument for him. If other people online are upset about it, that's on them, too, but the specific article he linked to had no mention of anyone involved with the school (or anyone else) being "offended."

Ergo, he was wrong.

quote references how it was a generally uplifting speech. People are then advised to choose their words carefully...so yeah...real offensive stuff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

QUite a difference between being offended

Feb 23, 2017, 11:54 AM [ in reply to If he was demonstrating how to use a condom there would be ]

And simply pointing out an error in his message.

It was a poor choice of words and he's acknowledged it.

Nothing to see here at all.

But, by all means, ascribe to this some nefarious left-leaning conspiracy which, gasp, wants to teach girls that they can be strong AND polite.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Being strong is definitely an asset for girls...

You can try and defend his stupidity, but he actions and words were still stupid. Maybe public speaking is something he should still avoid.
