a few things to keep in mind regarding Brownell...

he has been pretty darn good, all things considered...
1. KJ left early (unexpected)
2. OP basically destroyed our program
3. 4 of our last 6 losses were really close
4. we are adjusting to a new arena this year
5. we had to play in Greenville last year (took a toll)
6. KJ left early (unexpected)
7. OP left the cupboard bare
8. He has to recruit for his system
we're better than this Clemson nation... give the man some time

I believe that was the posts point, the excuses are weak and repetitive.
But I'm glad folks are starting to get it -

Clearly folks don't understand the use of satire as evidenced by the first couple of comments on this.
You forgot one: Clemson is a tough place to coach because us as fans want to win.

Adjusting to a new arena. They should be playing harder and for crying out loud play defense. Not to mention hitting a few free throws.

My thoughts on Brownell...
Jan 23, 2017, 2:09 PM
|

Is it time for the seat to be warm?.. yes. Is the ACC as good as it has ever been?.. also yes. If he stays, could things in improve as he has more time to recruit with new facilties?.. Maybe If you replace him... can you hire someone better?.. unknown
If you can find a home run hire and this season ends poorly... by all means.. go for it. But you need to have a proven winner and top recruiter come in to replace him or you are just spinning your wheels. Brad has an excellent resume' before Clemson and we just got ACC worthy facilities in place. If you cant bring in a shocking name that will turn recruits heads, I say stay the course and see how the facilities impact recruiting over the next 2 seasons.
Another element of this is good up and coming coaches will see a successful Brad Brownell come to Clemson and fail. They may be less likely to come here especially if he were to go back to a mid-major and starts winning again.

We have a talented team and better offensively than the past few years. Somehow our D has fallen off, we use to hold teams around 60 on a regular basis. Seems like we start playing the tempo on offense and rushing to many shots rather than slow things down.

They scored 81, so I guess you can shoot pretty good without a D.

Those are excuses. Real men, real programs get past excuses. Real programs get BETTER every year. I can accept maybe one down year to excuses but the trajectory is down.

Brad & his staff (or the next staff) have to recruit some scorers and defenders--not the same thing. But for the original post here---1 & 6 are the same; also 2 & 7 are the same. We still have some folks just willing to pump up shots the first time they see the basket in the frontcourt. And at times we have no one within 15 feet of the backboard. those are bad scenes for scoring with original or 2nd chance points. S. Mitchell is still ??? tp me. If Reed is a scorer why isn't he getting some court time & same question on Hudson. This team's confidence has been crushed since the WFU game. Maybe Brad is sitting the wrong folks. VT is better than us now, I believe but we could have won that game with a little patience in the 2nd half and the 5 on the court could not hold back with a trigger; all of them at any one time had the tendency save Djitte and he seldom touches the ball offensively. We did look better as a team in the pre-ACC season than we have since the UNC game started. Louisville and GT games were embarrassing. Brad has a lot of answering to do about who they have recruited and how they have been coached to play. By the way--any TigerNetters feel that KJ really helped himself other than his mother's checkbook by jumping ship a year early. If you do, check his playing time as a Rockets these days.

Only could come up with eight excuses? This was supposed to be the year and they're worse than ever. Next year, Blossomgame will be gone. What's the excuse then? They don't play defense. They don't rebound. That's effort. He says he is "begging" the players to play and they're not responding. That means they don't respect him. Give him "time." Seven years isn't enough? The program went to three straight NCAA Tournaments before he took over and has been to one since and only one NIT.
